I had a pretty good weekend.
On Friday, I went to see an Opera. I was supposed to be joining a group of about 8 to go, get dressed up and enjoy the Opera. (Which I've never actually seen live. I've seen them on TV, movie theaters and have CDs, but this is the first one I actually got to go to.)
What actually ended up happening was that since the guy who was getting us the tickets, could only get them for the Friday night show instead of the Saturday night show we'd all planned on. So, that cut out about 6 people, leaving only me and the guy who could get the tickets. I didn't know this, but the opera was put on by a school, The Colburn School of the Arts, and so the attired wasn't as dressy as what I wore. But it was all good.
The Opera itself was comprised of two separate one act operas called: THE SECRET KINGDOM and THE EMPEROR OF ATLANTIS. Both were really well done and the orchestral was amazing. I do miss the sound of live orchestral music. Besides the size of the auditorium, cast, and orchestra...it felt and sounded like a big production. And I was glad I was able to go. It was a nice free night, minus the gas it took me to get downtown and the fee to park (which is one of the reasons I don't like downtown.)
Saturday I planned to spend some time at the movies. I went to see REDTAILS and stayed for CONTRABAND. Redtails was visually entertaining and interesting. The acting was ok, but the story wasn't that great, which probably contributed to the acting. I mean, the story was alright, but it didn't have too much depth to either it or the characters. The dialogue was...eh. Especially with the character played by Neo. (Sorry, there are very few musicians I think make good actors/actresses...and he's not one of them...but I'm also not really a fan of his music, so yeah.) But, it was pretty good, and knowing that it was a George Lucas film, I knew it would be fun to watch...and it was. So...go support the film, so that perhaps all the brothers in the film can continue to find more work and the powers that be will fund/green light more diverse movies.
Contraband was not bad. I love a caper/heist movie, so it's usually pretty hard to mess it up for me. Usually the thing that messes it up is if it is predictable, and this one was not. Even when I thought something was going to happen, it did, but just in a different way. Overall, I would say it was a fun go of it. But don't go see it if you're ears are sensitive...it's got it's share of choice words.
Sunday I went to church, where it was basically a concert for a group of brothers called the Katinas. They were pretty good, and had an interesting story. Afterwards, I went home, went to the park, then caught up on some sleep. I didn't get much work done this weekend, but I did have lots of fun.
Lots to do today, but I will not stress or worry about anything...I press on.
