A weekend of Firsts...

This was a weekend of trying new things...except for Friday night, when I could not resist the urge to watch one of my very favorite movies, The Last Dragon.  I don't know why I needed to see it, but I did and it was great.  Super corny and cheesy, but great.  I said all the words verbatim...because I was alone and I could, and even listened to my favorite songs several times.  Maybe it was because that was something Erika and I would do...I don't know...but it was good stuff.

Saturday I decided that I was going to attempt to braid my own hair (which in and of itself is nothing new,) but since I was going to do it with extensions...something I normally pay a good price for...it was new for me.  I figured "how hard could it be," and besides...I was just doing cornrows so it would be easier to start with.  It was a bit challenging, but they didn't turn out half bad for a first attempt...now all I need to do is practice and finesse my technique.

Sunday at church was my first time working with the video/media ministry and it was fun!  It was like working on a real live show...which, thanks to MasterChef I have done before, but this time I was running a camera.  I've gotten used to having the AD talking in my hear and doing what she wanted, but having a director directing me on camera movement, shots and framing was something altogether new.  I definitely had to concentrate since he was calling the shots for 5 different cameras.  But I will say, my film school education helped me to catch on quite quickly.  Now I know what the Camera ops on the show were going through...though they had to decipher among 10-12 cameras on any given day...not just 4 others.

Acki and Saltfish...with all the sides, Yum!
Sunday after church I finally went to a Jamaican restaurant that I've been passing since I moved here...just never took the time to go, or it was closed, or I was in a hurry.  Anyways, today I went and the food was really good, the place was really chill (even though I took my food to go,) and the people were laid back.  I will be going back more often, for sure.

Also on Saturday, I met up with Bahamas since she has decided to take some time away from LA and the industry to really find out what God would have her to do...since (like me) this past year has been trial after trial, let down after let down, and tears upon tears.  I am saddened that as a believer, her road has been so trying when other people basically do whatever they want with no real morals and seem to succeed.  But I am praying that big things come to her in a way that she has never dreamed possible because of this act of faith and obedience to forces greater than herself.

But we had a great time catching up...that is until I took her to her car and it wasn't there.  Turns out her car had been towed to place not very close by with a price tag of just over $300.00.  Needless to say that was the straw that broke the camel's back, and she had a bit of a melt down.  I was glad I was there to support her and help her get her car back.  Although her move is bitter sweet...I'm sure that little set back made her leaving all the more appealing.

Tomorrow is a new week...and I hope it will be ridiculously productive as far as my own projects go.  I need it to be, since the last week of the month I will be working on a special for Disney, that the AD submitted my name to.  She really is a God send, and things are finally starting to look up.

I press on...
