Continued Prayers

Yesterday was a slow day, quiet day as it was a Jewish holiday and many of the agencies were shut down.  I got an email from my boss saying that they still were didn't have any update on her daughter and that she wouldn't be in for the rest of this week or next week...so I immediately began to pray, because that sounded serious.

Today, one of Delaware's bosses asked if we had heard anything from her (my boss) and none of us had, so she read us an email she sent.  Basically her daughter (who's only about 9 months old) has a rare type of epilepsy called West Syndrome, and today she was having an MRI and a lumbar puncture to gather if there are any underlying causes to her condition.  They don't think there are as she is developmentally on track, and she even pulled herself up yesterday and stood up!  So, they are hoping for favorable test results today and if so, then she will start her medical treatment, which is a 9 week process.  She said her daughter was in the 1% of people who have this rare condition...then made a joke that she wasn't in 'that 1%'...so it seems like her spirits are better.

So...now there are some specifics to keep in prayer.

Yesterday's FFoD was Dr. Phil, and he was a nice guy.  Really tall/big guy...and he must have just finished a show because he was very caked up with makeup...and not just the stuff you get at Target, but the heavy-duty stage make up!

Phil McGraw

Also yesterday, Delaware said to me, "do you realize that for the better part of a month, you have not had a boss..."

I do realize and though I currently wish the circumstances were like when I first started instead of what it is now  (vacation vs. child illness)...it's been pretty nice.  And not so bad when the Boss is here either...so I am very, VERY GRATEFUL!!!  All praises to God.

This day is just starting, so I'll probably post again later...till then, I press on.

Another Day...but prayers needed.

The day was a standard day...but unfortunately my Boss wasn't in again today because she had to take her baby daughter to the hospital.  I'm not exactly sure what's wrong with her, but it must be serious as she sent an email to the other bosses stating why she wouldn't be in, and she didn't call once to check in.  I only found out that she was hospital bound when I called her house to roll a call.  So, while I don't know specifics, I do know that prayer changes things...and so I ask for your prayers on behalf of m Boss and her daughter.

And because I don't want this post to end on a low note, I have a story.  Today Delaware and the other assistant for that size read a script that was submitted to them by a smaller management agency and they talked about it bad!  So bad, that they decided to do an impromptu 'table' reading of it...where we all take parts and read it aloud.  As an aspiring writer, I didn't want them to talk bad about the script, because the writer obviously loved it enough to write and finish it, and I know what it's like to believe in your work.

That said, it was not the best script...by a long shot...but it was (sadly) good fun acting it out with voices and all.  We only got to like page 9 before we couldn't take it any more, and laughed and laughed and laughed...then we had an interesting conversation about politics...then it went back to silent town.

Also, I saw a trailer for '42' a story about Jackie Robinson...check it out below...

Highlights...

Justin Long - Jeepers Creepers
Dodge Ball...
and other silly movies
Friday was a pretty chill day, and the only FFoD was Justin Long, who was a nice guy.   There was some excitement on the lot as the shuttle was flying over.  We must have been the only ones who forgot or didn't know the time of the shuttle's passing because the rest of the lot was standing on roof and cheering.  We heard them cheering, just didn't know why until later...after the shuttle had already made two passes above our location.  One of the other bosses was pretty hot about it and just couldn't let it go.

Saturday I went to see "End of Watch" and then stayed for "The Master."  "End of Watch" was really good...very violent, very emotional and surprisingly very funny.  I say, go see it...just know that it's not meant for the faint hearted...or children.   (I saw at least 3 kids running around under 8 years old...not cool.)

Sunday, I worked camera at church, and as always it was fun and challenging.  Afterwards, I had some lunch, took a nap, caught up on TV, took a walk, took another nap, did some reading, then called it a night.

Monday was another slow day at work, but also productive; meetings set, calls returned, and emails answered.  While listening in on a call, one of the agents was talking about her hamster and how its had quartezone shots, been put on 'wheel' rest, threw out his back running on his wheel too much, then got a tumor and just today survived an operation to remove it.  This hamster is a trooper...even if she's paid a million times over to keep it alive than she did to buy it.  It just sounds silly (not to mention made up) when I write it, but when she told the story it was super funny.

So, those were the highlights...I got a little work done today after work...hope to do better as the week moves on...day by day, step by step...I press on.

Fun Guests

David Koechner
'Anchor Man' & ''Talladega Nights'
Yesterday we had a fun guest in the office...his name is David Koechner and he was really funny, and very personable.  He came in for the other boss' and after speaking with Delaware (who set up his meeting)  he came to my side of the office, extended his hand and introduced himself.  I shook his hand and told him my name was Angelica.  He responded, "I'm gonna stop at Angel." I told him, that's what my family calls me.  He replied, "Now see there, we're family.

Joyful Drake
BET's 'Lets Stay Together'
Normally people only get that privilege when they are family or I've known them for a while, or they've been introduced to me as Angel...but this guy was so funny and nice, that I didn't tell him he had not yet earned the right.  After his meeting, he came, shook my hand again and said "Bye, Angel."

Today, Joyful Drake came in and she was cute and fun.  Apparently she wrote a funny script and the Other Bosses want to work with her.  Yay for her!!!

On a different note, I was listening to a phone call with my boss and one of the agent's she works with (as I often do...it is encouraged, for keeping abreast of things...and also good for learning.)  Anyways, the agent was talking about a writer that a certain network paired them with to work with developing and pitching an idea for them.  Now apparently this writer, who's got some nice feature film credits and smaller TV credits to her name, is lazy.  She's basically had the agent doing a lot of the work she should be doing, and she will be getting the created by credit without doing the work to earn it.

It was just interesting.  She told my Boss to never, ever in her life work with this writer, and that she wouldn't last long in this industry, with a work ethic like hers.  Just another lesson learned to carry with me to the next levels certainly in store for me.

It's not that late, but I am tired.  One more day to go!  (Not that I don't like my job and am extremely grateful for it...its just right now, I'm still working for the weekend!!!)

I press on...

Gun Shots on the Lot!

Today, for most of the morning, gun shots could be heard on the lot.  Now, the first time, it was scary and a little disconcerting.  I mean, I'm ok with hearing gun shots if they are say, at the gun range, or on TV, but not in real life.

After the second and third rounds, I realized they were shooting a scene here on the lot and kinda got used to them, knowing that they weren't real.  Delaware jumped every time...and like I said, the 'shooting' took place for the better part of the day...at least until lunch time.  It's a funny part of working on a lot and I like it.  You never know what's shooting that day...what imaginary scenarios are taking playing out in real life...what 'movie magic' is happening to create a TV show or film.  So cool.

As for the rest of the day...my boss didn't come in until mid afternoon, which was nice.  Not that she's bad when she's there...but I don't know any instances where the boss being out of the office is a bad thing.   Unfortunately one of the shows pitched last week didn't get picked up, so she's a bit down.   And me too in a way, because it seemed like a neat show that I would watch.  Ah well...tis the nature of the biz.

Yesterday was a great commute to work...I was wondering why it was so quick and smooth, but then I remembered it was Rosh Hashanah;  much of Hollywood is Jewish, so they weren't going to work.  They were celebrating the New Year!

Today (and yesterday's) FFoD are below.  Kenny Smith came in again, and before he left made it a point to come and shake my hand,  and say "Good to see you again..." It kinda caught me off guard, because at the time I was talking to my boss and he came out of no where.  My boss kinda had a look like 'hmm, you know him?'  Um, not really, but maybe later I will...that's subtle networking!

Kenny Smith- "The Jet" Former NBA player
Also in the FFoD were J.K. Simmons from The Closer (and now Major Crimes)...I saw him at the restaurant where I was picking up my boss' lunch...and Damon Wayans, who came in today.

J.K. Simmons- Chief Pope on The Closer

Damon Wayans

Well, it's getting late and there are still some things on my 'to do' list before the day ends.  I press on...

An Eventful Friday...and Weekend

For the majority of the day, Friday was pretty low key.  The only FFoD was Eriq LaSalle (his pic is below) and that was kinda weird because (growing up) I always thought he looked a bit like my dad.  So, to see him in person, and see that he is also tall, and also has a deep voice, was kinda like having a very distant relative of my dad in the office.  He was a nice guy, and like many in Hollywood...he had really soft hands.

Eriq LaSalle (ER, Coming to America)
But, for the most part the day was routine.  Until the Creative Director on the other side of the office was watching the news about the wildfire that was quickly spreading.  We watched as highways were shut down, and traffic started to back up, and flames came dangerously close to roads and homes.  Delaware was flying out again that evening and was concerning about how to get to the airport.  Her boss was concerned about his wife (her other boss) as she was in the thick of things and had to pick up their children and make it back over the hill, since they too were heading out for the weekend...on a private plane though.

Then, as we were just wondering about all the logistics that would be altered because of this fire, the power in our building went out...and not just in our bungalow, on the whole studio lot.  The only people who were ok, were the Starwagons where the 'stars' stay when they aren't shooting, because they run on generators.  We waited, and waited and waited...but the power never came back on.

I heard from my boss who had left earlier for a pitch on a different lot, and she said she wasn't coming back...and that basically I could leave too.  But I stayed for a while to see if the power would come back on.  Slowly, the boss left, then the Creative Director went to get his son, then the other assistant went to
'see about his family'...then it was just Delaware and I.  I left about 5:30pm...which definitely was nice on a Friday afternoon.

Later that night, I just checked my email just in case, and found that two people had both emailed and called.  I checked the voicemail, and one of them was good news.  One of the shows my boss is working on got picked up and all the deal is sealed!  The second was very peculiar because it was for a meeting with a celebrity that NO ONE in our office knew about...not even my boss.  So, it was a bit frantic trying to find out what was the deal, but I guess we'll see how it goes on Monday.

Saturday I spent about 2 hours at the sprint store with them trying to fix my email.  I don't really want to get into, but sometimes they don't hire the brightest people...and please let it be know, if you're going to try and make me feel stupid on the sly, that I will do the same to you...calmly, tactfully and in a way that makes you feel stupid for trying me and for whatever it is that you did wrong.

Saturday night I spent at the ADs house babysitting.  It was fun except for when it was time for her to go to bed. She screamed for a while...but finally I got her to sleep...and then had the evening to work on some writing.

Sunday, I went to the barn and hung out with horses...and as always, had a great time.

Me and 'Cassie' at the Barn
On a different note, I got a Facebook friend request today from one of Erika's friends from her time in the Marching Chiefs at FSU.   I didn't really recognize her, but she had a picture of FSU and figured it must be a friend of Erika's.  When I accepted her friend request, the first post on her wall was about how the football season made her think of Erika, which led her to search for her, which led her to the Orlando Sentinel article about the accident, which she posted.  Ugh.

Then other random people gave their condolences and what not...but one guy's post really annoyed me.  He was like "I knew her before college and I really hope she pulls through...lets lift her and her family up in prayer."  Um, hello...he didn't even thoroughly read the article...obviously.  Because if he did...well, my blood pressure is going up just thinking about it, so I won't say.  But it was very annoying.

Later, the girl who reached out to me sent me a message to say "H, among other things."   I don't mind talking about the accident, but I don't like being reminded of it randomly...I do enough of that on my own, everyday.  Every. Day.  I will get back to her eventually...I'm sure she, like most people want to know more details...or rather think they want to know more details, only to find themselves sad or regretful after hearing them.

Well, it's only 8 and I'm going to try and get some stuff done before my early bedtime.  I press on...

Parking...

My days have been some what busy, and I'm definitely finding more of a routine at work, with my boss and with my time at home.  So, this post is probably a bit boring.

A small note about parking at CBS.   It's more of a challenge than it should be.  I'm permitted to park on the fourth floor or above of one of the structures on the lot...but, everyday you have to basically fight someone to the death to get a spot up there.  Keep in mind, on the three floors below there are a lot of reserved spots for big wigs who rarely show up.  Now, that was before 'The Talk' started shooting.

Now, every morning, no matter how early I get there, there are parking attendants telling me to park somewhere else because the structure is full.  Now, apparently the structure isn't full...it's just they hold the spaces for the audience members of 'The Talk' because they don't want to park them other places on the lot where they can mill about and see stuff on the lot they really shouldn't be seeing.  I get it.

But now I leave extra early so I at least get a spot on the lot and don't have to park on the street somewhere.  So far it's been going ok...I usually have to park along the river, or near the other structure.  The lot is a nice size, but not nearly as big as Warner Brothers, so it's not like I have an extremely long walk.  5 minutes max.

I know...that was some pretty exciting stuff!!!  Well, everyday can't be an event...although I guess I could just make it up.  I've threatened to do that before...and I might just start doing it!!!

Today, two nice Chocolate girls came in to pitch to my boss...which is only worth mentioning because that rarely happens.  I also found out one of the executives that I talk to on the phone often (well, I talk to her assistant mostly and then listen in on the calls with she and my boss)...is (according to Delaware) a strong, confident, chocolate woman (her words, not mine...I'm training her well. =)  That's pretty cool, and I hope to meet her one day.

Well...no FFod today...but stay tuned...

Back to work...my work...I press on.

Busier...

Today was a busier day on my side of the office...(even busier on Delaware's side) but it was all good.  I was able to handle everything in style, and even somethings my Boss thought I'd neglected to tell her, I'd already told her about in Friday's email...which she overlooked.  I just thank God for his favor and for giving me whatever I need to make it though the day.

Overall, it was a pretty uneventful day...even though it was busy.  I got to read a really good script, but I can't talk about it, so I guess I shouldn't have mentioned it.  Ah well.  As for today's FFoD...

Steve-o...best known from the MTV series, JackAss...he was not however a Jackass in real life...he actually was a really nice guy.

Fun Weekend...but not productive

My weekend was pretty fun.  I went to a 4 yr old's birthday party, Costco, kayaking, the horse barn and back to Costco.

I was invited at the last minute by a co-worker to his son's 4th birthday party.  It wasn't a big deal, it was at a nearby park, Delaware and I went together and I think it meant a lot to my co-worker that I did not count it robbery to wake up early on a Saturday morning and come play with 4 year olds.

After the party, Delaware and I braved the way too crowed Saturday Costco shopping extravaganza!  I don't generally like going on a Saturday, but she needed to go, usually goes on my card and I didn't' have any other days free to go.  So...Costco it was, and though she looked like she was going to breakdown and scream or run over someone with her cart, we made it through in good time and no incidences.

The rest of the day was a bit of a blur.  I wrote a little, but found myself doing an impromptu marathon of Grey's Anatomy on Netflix...and while not productive, it was nice to just veg out and not think.  But, if I don't get on it soon, I'm going to be very upset with myself for not being a better steward over my time and talents.

Sunday I went kayaking with 3 other girls from my MeetUp group and it was really fun.  Minus the fact that I had to trek over 3 different highways to Long Beach and having to share a kayak, it was just the bit of fresh air I needed.  The other girls seemed a little timid about having a kayak all to themselves, so we got tandem ones.  My kayak buddy did a lot of holding her paddle while I paddled in front...as if I couldn't see her with my peripheral vision or feel the boat going a different direction when she would jump in and not be in sync with me.  Whatever, I did enjoy myself, and got a good workout...and probably a good tan too!

After kayaking I came home with intentions of napping...but that didn't go so well.  I showered, ate and rested, but didn't nap.  It's probably a good thing that I didn't, because I might not have made it to the barn.  The trainer I met through a MeetUp was offering a crash course with riding included for a few people.  The thing is, I didn't sign up in time....but those on the list were allowed to come and watch for free, which is what I came to do.  Unfortunately, two of the four people didn't show, and had I the cash or a check I could've had a mini lesson (because I'm always ready since I keep my boots, helmet and gloves in my trunk at all times!)  It was good anyways to be out with the horses though, and she asked me to do stuff to 'teach' the others there, which was nice.

I don't like missing church for recreational activities, but I can at least stream the services later and I have requested that we do more Saturday gatherings...so hopefully I'll still get to have more fun-filled outdoorsy weekends, and my church fellowship as well.

So, while I had plans to shut myself up and catch up on all the writing I had planned to do and failed to accomplish during the week...that plan yielded to fun in the sun, and I'm not mad about it.

Unfortunately, I have had a headache since Friday, so I'm trying to nurse that.  Pray all is well.  I press on.

Oh...Temperature in Long Beach was PERFECT!  84 degrees, light sea breeze, salty air...perfect.
Temperature in the Valley 104 degrees, no breeze and well...like Florida in August.  Gotta love humidity.

Good day...

It's late and I'm tired...so I'll make this quick.    The first day back with the Boss wasn't bad at all.  I was able to keep up with all the calls she wanted to make, and all the other things she asked me to do where simple, easy tasks.   She doesn't seem to be one who is completely dependent on her assistant...nor does she seem to be one who feels the need to hover...both of which work for me.  Just praying we continue to mesh, and work well together.

After work I went to Chicago's house for dinner with she and 6ft.  It was our 'Ladies Night' that we're trying to do more often, and it was really fun.  We always have good conversation and respect each other so it works...plus we're all quite OK with being silly and goofy, so that's just icing on the cake.

Off to bed.  I press on.

A Quiet Day...

Today was a rather quiet day...even on the busier side of the office where Delaware works (though she didn't come in until 4pm today because she spent the majority of the day in a hospital with her roommate...she's fine, but it was an ordeal.)

There were very few calls, only two emails and lots of quiet time.   I tried to utilize the down time to my advantage to write, but it didn't go well at all.  I'd write some, then couldn't think, then stare at the computer screen, then stare at the paper...on and on...blah, blah, blah...so anyway not a lot of writing happened.

I NEED TO GET BACK INTO A WRITING FLOW!!!!  This is not good.  Time is ticking, and I need to be creating, building and nurturing an arsenal of work!!!  Ok, that's all for now.  Small rant done.  I Press on.

I sent a picture of my CBS email to this blog from my phone, but as it can happen, my phone is being really shady, and the picture has yet to show up...so I'll just put my email on here...but IT'S NOT TO BE USED!  (Again I say, DO NOT USE!)  Just think of it as a really cool reminder that my prayer to be fully employed in the entertainment industry & Scripted TV by year's end was answered...well before the year ended.

angelica.witherspoon-cassanova@cbs.com

As for today's FFoD...(Famous Face of the Day...just in case the acronym has already been forgotten)

ZERO.  Like I said, it was a really quiet day.

Tomorrow, the Boss is back.  So, just praying I'm on my 'A' game and can be a great help to her.  I've still got a little bit of time until tomorrow starts, so I will try to write before my date with my pillow.   I press on.

Quiet Day

Vacation is Over...

Today at work, like my other days thus far, was for the most part, quiet.   No complaints from me though.  But...these days of quiet acclimation are coming to an end.  Well, the end of not having a boss right in the next office and actually being at someone's beck and call.  My boss has cut her vacation short because she "is going crazy not being in the office and working...[she] just can't take it."  So, she is flying back tomorrow and planning to be in the office on Thursday.  Wow.

I guess I can understand...she has several projects she's trying to sell for this upcoming season, and things aren't going as quickly as she'd like.  I supposed she feels being here (instead of spending time with her husband, children and family) is more beneficial.  Who am I to judge?  I'm not in her position.

I will say that anytime I've been on vacation, I was not in a hurry to get back to real life...but then again, I've never been the President of Development at a production company on a major TV studio lot, in partnership with a husband/wife team that have a hit TV show, some Emmys, a million other projects, and are known as those 'who can do no wrong.'  When I look at it that way, I guess she is under some pressure to perform...and being away from the action, probably doesn't help matters.

So, when she returns on Thursday, I'll be ready to help her in any way I can.

I did make a mistake today...or rather I thought I did.  See, a big pitch for my Boss was moved from yesterday to next week, except she thought it was still tomorrow.  I apologized for the oversight in not telling her...until I realized that I had put it on her calendar, and had emailed her specifically about the change on Friday...but not until after I had emailed her and acknowledged my oversight.  She didn't make a big deal about it...probably because too realized that I did inform her of the change and she was the one who forgot about it.    I will definitely try to continue to be one step ahead of her, and on top of anything I can...with God's help of course.

One point of exclusion for me in the office is the fact that everyone is a part of a Fantasy Football League...and I am not.  So they all talk about their teams a lot, leaving me left out.  There was a an opening on their league on Friday and Delaware quickly named someone outside the office that would be good to join...then later, when I asked what it included, she was like..."Oh, I'm am such a ****. I didn't even ask you...I just figured you wouldn't want to do something like this...I'm so sorry.  I'm such a ****."   It's all good...but it is justification about my thoughts that some people in general are oblivious to lots of things.  That's all I have to say about that.

On a different note, I got the giggles towards the end of the day today while IMing with Delaware.  I thought of something Erika and I used to say and make fun of, and couldn't stop laughing about it.  Delaware wanted in on what was so funny, and I tried to explain it to her...but it was just our thing...not so funny when you have to break it down and explain it.

I guess that's all for today...for a relatively quiet day, this is a long post.  I'm going to try and start posting what I call FFoD...Famous Faces of the Day, where I will tell of the famous folks I saw in the office...so...I press on...and todays FFoDs are:

Kenny Smith "The Jet" former NBA player
Angela Kinsey from "The Office"

Rachel Harris from "The Hangover"

I was wrong...

After my last post, I got an email from a friend who proved my theory wrong about my mother being my only reader and that my posts here were futile...since my mom gets to talk to me and get the low down of my day.   So, thanks to that friend...I will try and do better with posts.

This week at work...

Had my first days of rolling/returning calls with my boss on the other line.  It seems like an easy task, but when you're a little worried about pushing the wrong button, which will hang up on her, or not completely hearing who it is she wants to call, then hoping you can find that person's phone number in the contacts list on the computer...it can get a bit daunting.  But, I just took a deep breath, said a prayer, and went with it...and I didn't mess up, or loose any calls, or call the wrong person, so I would call that positive growth.

The days have been mostly quiet on my side of the office, as my boss has been (and will be) gone...she returns the 10th...so I have another week of settling.  The quiet time gives me time to read all the submissions, and learn from Delaware's side of the office, since they are a bit more busy.

Well...after a nice (paid) holiday...tomorrow starts a new week...I press on.

Here are a few faces I got to see this week:  (Sorry for the weird placement of the pics...ugh, google.)

Top to bottom:  Martin Lawrence, Fred Savage, Terry Crews and Mila Kunis.
Terry Crews
