Sick of being Sick...
Church yesterday was really good. The preacher talked about "People with Problems" and relating them to the greats of the Bible, who also had problems, yet God used them in great ways and blessed them greatly in return. It was very encouraging.
Yesterday I also saw J. EDGAR. It was...hmmm...well acted, well directed and marginally visually interesting. That said, it was just OK to me. It's already campaigning for Oscar season, for Best Picture, Best Male Lead and Best Director (at the least.) Mr. DiCaprio may win...its not something I need to see again or own. (But if it is nominated and I get to go to the AMC Oscar Best Picture showcase this year, I may see it again...or take that time to take a break.)
Today, outside of coughing, I worked on some projects and did some writing. It was a kinda productive day.
Later, while looking for a flight home for Christmas, I got frustrated again and started thinking negatively (and consequently speaking negatively) about my situation and the job front. But very shortly after, I started watching Intervention which reminded me of the sermon on Sunday and how I felt afterwards...and quickly checked myself and got my mind right. (Watching Intervention made me really realize that it could be WAY worse.)
Faith and Hope aren't based on things I can see, and focusing on what I can see (which in my mind is negative) won't grow my faith or my hope in what God has in store for me.
So, I press on...
Tomorrow is internship day...looking forward to being a part of the creative team.
On another note if anyone out there has a private plane that they want to let me catch a ride on for Christmas break, holla at ya girl...=)...because the airlines are one some serious crack!

Running Water...
My kitchen faucet was leaking...repair men came and fixed it last Wednesday. Now it won't turn off...sure the handles are in off position, but the water...it keeps a runnin'
The noise is very annoying.
Under the Weather
Tuesday though, the Woman boss called me in and through a twist of conversation, she found out I was a twin, and that she's gone, and blah, blah, blah...then she started crying, which almost made me cry, but it was fine. It's just another reason I keep that to myself...when people hear it, they want to cry...and I don't like making people cry...(unless, of course its in a script or on the screen.)
The only good thing about being too sick to do anything constructive, is that I have been able to catch up on all my DVRed TV. Well, that's about all for the catch up. Pushing more meds so hopefully by Saturday at the latest, I'll be back in full form.

Fire!
There was a fire at the apartment complex across and a little down the street from me. At first I thought it was a car accident, so I was afraid to look..but I just couldn't help myself...so I peeked out and saw the smoke...good all is ok, and no one is injured.
On a different note, I spent the day hanging with Delaware and her friends at her house. I had planned to work the day away, but God had other plans. So after church, I pretty much spent the day with her, and later her friends joined us. It was fun...but I felt like an outcast. Not because I don't like her friends, or they don't like me, or we don't get along, because that's just not the case. It is, as always, just the way I feel.
Switching gears again...I have not heard back from my immediate boss concerning pay for the extra time to be required in the up coming weeks. To be honest, I wouldn't want to answer me either. I mean, if he knows there will be no pay, that's a sticky subject to talk about that could potentiallly lead to more work and hours for him. If it is...well, he still has to talk to the big bosses about it, so yeah.
God will work it out...

Three Days...
Wednesday
I got a lot of work accomplished...but now it pretty much seems like a blur...which is why I probably should update everyday. (Or, more likely, its seems like a blur, because all I did was work at the house.)
Thursday
Internship day. I worked on one project all day...but I was actually finished before lunch, and after asking for more work to be done and none needing to be done at the point, I chatted with friends online, and shot the breeze.
Friday
Another work day, and it was pretty productive. I woke up to rain, which was a nice change...but it was gone by about 8, so I went to workout at the park. The nice thing was that after I got back, less than an hour later, the rain was back and remained on and off for the remained of the day. I miss the smell and sound of rain.
Around 5ish pm, I got an email from the Woman Boss at my internship (it was sent to everyone) and it said that they sold a show. That's great! (I thought.) Then it went on to say basically all weekends and holidays (save Christmas day and NewYear's day) are "ALL HANDS ON DECK," not to make any plans, and to plan to be there around that time.
Now...like I said, that's exciting that they have a show sold (FANTASTIC is probably a better word...and I really am happy for them)...but mandatory Saturdays, 'on-call' Sundays, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and pretty much every day after except Christmas and New Years is not something I can commit to for free. I'm just keeping it real. Now if there is some monetary compensation going on, then perhaps I'll ride out with them until I get ready to leave for my already shortened Christmas break. But not for free.
If this sale of a show has turned from an internship into job, then I guess we'll see...But NOT FOR FREE. I know this industry is infamous for not paying people to (so they say) make sure that people are serious, but I mean, dang...even the Bible says workers are entitled to and should get paid for their work.
Now, I'm only there two days a week...but there are other interns there who come in every day, weekends, late nights for free...and I just had a conversation about one of the guys who's there 24/7 and his need for them to hire him soon, because he doesn't know how much longer he can work for free in what's basically a full time job.
Prayerfully, though I'll get the call I've been waiting for from the company that could give me the catapult into my career I've been praying and waiting for...which will allow me to extend my Christmas holiday with family, and come back to a fully paid position with benefits and in the direction I hope to go with my career. If however, this is God's way of herding me into the path He has for me...then I'll try to be open to it...(I said I'll try...but monetary compensation is obligatory.)
(I don't want to sound like a money whore, but unfortunately we don't live in the world of Star Trek, where people do their jobs just for the greater good of humanity or in the name of exploration and where money doesn't exist, so there is no such thing as the cost of living...so yeah...(though I wish we did))
So...I may or may not have a job lining up...we'll see.

Tuesday...(I can't think of anything better)
Anyways, the first day back was pretty laid back, though I wasn't able to effectively create anything I felt was good...just a little rusty, but I'm sure it won't last long.
I did leave the office at a decent time to go to a screening of TOWER HEIST. Now, I didn't have high expectations going into it, so I wasn't disappointed. It was a fun, entertaining and ridiculous movie, with themes so many in this economy can relate to.
So...I won't say you should go see it, but what I will say, is that you don't like films where the people 'stick it' to the man, or any story resembling Robin Hood, or anything about getting justice by any means necessary, or ridiculous antics, or imaginative vices, or surprises in the plots, or funny people, or you don't have the willingness to suspend your right to disbelief for a few hours...then this probably isn't the film for you. Otherwise, go see this not-Oscar worthy, non-thought provoking, SUPER FUN movie! I enjoyed it!

Back into a groove...
Tomorrow will be my first day back at my internship, so hopefully I'll have some fun projects to work on...but not so fun that I have to stay a long time beyond my actual quitting time...I got free passes to see The TOWER HEIST, coming out this weekend.
This past weekend, was a festive one. Now, I'm not one really for celebrating Halloween, but I did go to some activities because ti was an opportunity to get out of the house and hang out with friends and meet some new people.
Friday I went to the Tonight Show, with Jay Leno, and it was pretty fun. Adam Sandler was the main guest and he seemed really cool and down to earth...as did Jay Leno. The other guest was the guy Kardashian that is on Dancing with the Stars. He could've walked by me on the street and I wouldn't have known who he was. His mother was there and the audience seemed very star struck over her...she looks kinda fake to me. So that was fun, though I have to admit, not quite as fun as the Ellen Show.
Friday night I went to my first Haunted Hay Ride ever, and it was fun. Apparently it's a big deal here, and so we spent about an hour and a half waiting in line. ('We' being, Delaware, and some of her friends.) The atmosphere was...weird and creepy. There was a stilt walker there dressed in a 'pseudo-black swan' get up and he was hiding behind trees and in the shadows jumping out and scaring people. He got me once or twice, but his costume was very well done and he was really skilled on the stilts, so I kinda couldn't stop looking at him. The hay ride was fun/entertaining...but I've been sneezing ever since, so...
Saturday there was a free 'fair' near my house that one of my friends, who's a Stunt Woman, was performing in. It was a 'Stuntacular' and they were taking donations for the Make a Wish Foundation. So I went to that, and it was cute...the show was geared towards kids and it was free, (minus donations for the fund) and close to the house...so it was not a waste of my time.
Sunday, Delaware (and some of her friends) and I went to Disney's El Capitan Theater (which is on Hollywood Blvd, across from the Kodak theater and only shows Disney movies) to see a 4D screening of the Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. I'd seen the movie a million times before, but not here and not in 4D. What is 4D you ask? It basically just brings another dimension to the screening...so for instance, when the lights went down/up in the movie, they went down/up in the theater...when there was fog in the movie, there was fog in the theater...when it snowed in the movie, it snowed in the theater...you get the idea.
Hopefully tomorrow will bring new stories to share, new adventures to experience, and a fresh new set of joys to revel in...till then...

On the West Coast
So, I arrived on Monday afternoon, and basically slept till the next day. During my all day travel, in addition to people watching and airport exploring, I told my Internship boss that I wouldn't be in until next week. I need some time to just get back in a routine, look for jobs and write without my time being devoted to others' projects for a minute. (I mean either way I'm not getting paid, so I'll just take a lil while for myself.)
Anywho, yesterday was an all day work day and it was pretty productive...as far as my writing goes. Today (so far) has also been productive, as I have been doing administrative stuff (for me) and running errands...and the day is just barely getting started. I have to say that going to the East coast messed up my time clock in a good way...I get up earlier, so I get more stuff done earlier...the downside, I go to be earlier...but I'll work on that.
Just wanted to give a quick catch up on where I am right now, and hopefully in the VERY NEAR future, there will be more interesting things to write about!

Back in Florida...
This news came after a day at my internship that started out ok ended up not the best. The day started well because my task for the day was to help the Man Boss revise and write a script for a sizzle (promo) reel for a show they are pitching to networks. The day began to head south (and I'm not referring to the good ol' South I tend to miss)...no, the day starting going downhill at an impromptu birthday party we threw for one of the interns, Romania (I recently called him Bulgaria...he's actually from Romania so that is his new name.)
The Woman Boss was talking about her having twin girls. (She's obviously pregnant, but I didn't know it was twin girls.) While I think that is great, sometimes news of twins still makes me a little sad. So after the party I was a tiny bit down, but I was ok. Later, the Man Boss and I had to meet with the Woman Boss about the script...and she tore it apart. That wasn't so bad, because she also made some good points and suggestions...but when she said, "Well, obviously if this show gets picked up, none of us are qualified enough to write and we would hire a professional..." I kinda too it personally. Mainly, because I have been trying to build up my writing, I'm faithful that I will get into the ABC/Disney writing program, and many of my professors have told me I'm a good writer. I mean, I feel like God is molding me to be a writer/producer, so to hear comments like that, make me doubt. But whatever...it is what it is and I press on.
So, on my way home, I called my Mother (as I normally do) but she wasn't home. It was about 7:30ish, which means it was around 10:30 back in Florida, which means Mom should have been home...I felt something was wrong. Then I called her cell and found out that Grandma had passed away.
When I got home, I immediately looked for flights home because I wasn't sure if the services were going to be that weekend or the next. As it turned out, it was a bit more cost effective to fly out the very next day...Wednesday...and the services were set for the next (well...two days from now)
So, I've been back in Florida, spending time with the family...and since the services actually were set for the next week (well...two day from today) I have been able to have a bit of down time...a mini-vacation, so to speak. (though of course, I would have preferred different circumstances for which to come to Florida.)
Anyways, that is why I have been MIA. I'll be in Florida for some more days, but when I'm back in Cali I'll get back to it...well, unless something really interesting jumps off while I am still in Florida. Till then...TTFN...(ta-ta for now) =)

The Weekend
But I did have a great time, and I love having visitors (hint, hint for anyone who wants to visit the west coast.)
Yesterday was some catching up on my own projects and errands. Last night though, Delaware and I went to see the IDES OF MARCH, and it was pretty good. But don't go see it if you want lots of action...it moves at a slower pace, but is still interesting.
I'm at my internship now, but people are in meetings so I don't have a particular task as of yet. I did wake up early and make cookies for one of the other interns because its his birthday...and birthdays MUST BE CELEBRATED!!!! (who knows when it will be your last...)
Not a super dynamic post, but it is what it is...stay tuned. :)

Here's what I been busy with...
Today, I finally finished the videos I wanted to have done last weekend. Take a look...

Yesterday and today...
So, I came home, attempted some work, but ultimately went to bed early. I even skipped a screening at my school.
This morning, I woke up feeling a bit more refreshed. I guess mom was right, I can't make up for about a week of little to no sleep in one day...and I guess my body was telling me so.
But back to today, after doing a tiny bit of work this morning, I went to the movies. I actually have not been in about three weeks (mostly because of writing, but also because not much is out that I hadn't already seen or cared to see.)...and just be clear, 3 weeks without being in the theater is crazy for me...movies are kinda my crack...in a good way, if that's possible.
Anyway, Today I saw MONEYBALL and it was great!!! My only regret is that I passed up a free screening a few weeks ago to see it. But it was worth the money.
Then I stayed for an IMAX re-release of STAR TREK, which was SOOOOO great. I mean, yes, I saw it when it came out two years ago in the theater like three times (once in IMAX,) and yes, I own it, and yes, I have the BK collectors glasses (which were a gift) and yes, I on occasion pull it out and watch it...but all the nerdy Aww and wonderment came back as soon as I heard the title music...its so epic. I mean, my level of excitement was ridiculous as I sat in front of that huge screen. It's been too long since I got to see something in IMAX. I need to get a job ASAP...because I've just added to my list of 'toys' an IMAX theatre on my property...next to the barn...but not close enough to spooky the horses.
Well, off to bed...early morning, and surely a late night.

One big blur...
That said, here's how the Friday and Saturday went...though its mostly a blur:
11:00pm-1:00pm...Friday night power nap
2:00am-4:00am...get in writing mode and out of sleepy mode.
4:??am...procrastinated by updating the blog.
5:00am...got into a good writing groove
8:00am...broke for some grits and eggs, the southern breakfast of champions.
9:00am...back to work
11:00am...call from Delaware to go to the beach.
11:35am...call from Delaware canceling the beach trip
12:00pm...back home and back to work.
2:00pm...power nap!
4:00pm...back to work.
6:00pm...dinner break.
8:00pm...worked out
9:00...went creatively brain dead, and lungs feeling a bit weezy...maybe I should've passes on the workout...
10:??ish...finally pulled myself off the couch and got in the shower.
10:30ish...watching a movie to unwind.
10:40ish...update the blog...
Tomorrow is a new day...perhaps I will focus on rest and get back to work in the evening.
My sleepless days did give me the opportunity to see the sunrise, which was cool...

A mini Catch up day...
It's going. The later it gets, the more I find excuses to do other things...like update the blog. But I will get back to it momentarily. All nighters/all days are doable for me from Friday to Monday since those are the days I usually don't have to be anywhere (for now anyways...I'll put my all nighter weekends to rest once I get into the Disney/ABC program or find a full time job. Or at the very least I may have all nighter days of fun =) )
Today was mostly uneventful though. It rained here and I was so excited when it started...Unfortunately it literally lasted 2 minutes, so my excitement was short lived. Is it weird that I wanted to go out and play in it? I do miss the daily Florida summer storms and the smells associated with it. Sigh. It never rains in Southern California (well, unless it's my graduation weekend and my family is visiting and I'm trying to drive to church...which is the only time it has seriously rained since I came here.)
I think I've procrastinated enough. Back to work.

14 Hour Day...
Now those who know me, know that The Last Dragon is the one of my two favorite movies of all time. (The Sound of Music is the second) That said, anyone who has seen The Last Dragon and loves it as much as I do, and can even quote lines from the movie (though not as thorough as me) gets a gold star in my book!
Also, one of the other interns from Bulgaria, loves, LOVES gospel music, so later in the night, I took my headphones out and put on my Gospel station on my Pandora account and he was very much appreciative. It's really interesting the things people connect with.
My boss asked me (and out of the blue) how old I was. He said he knows its faux paux to ask a woman her age, but that I seemed wise beyond my age. So, I do what I normally do when people ask my age...I tell them to guess first. His guess was 26. 'Bulgaria's ' guess was 21...so of course they were both surprised at the actual age. Ahhh...good aging genes.
That's about it...my former Pastor asked me to put together a promo video for the up coming re-launch of their ministry. So, tomorrow, though not one I necessarily have to leave the house for, looks like it's shaping up to be a busy one...but I will make time to write!
It's kinda late and I'm alot tired. Good night.
P.S.---For those of you who didn't get to see the 'one-sheets' I posted that I designed...sorry. I think two days is enough to have material that technically is not mine to have up on the www.

Unexpected Surprises
The other nice surprise of the day came during another networking event I attended tonight. I thought it was gonna be lame and a waste of gas, but it turned out quite interesting. See it was like a 'speed dating' group networking thing, where we as groups moved to each 'mentor' and picked their brains. Well two were of particular interest to me as they worked with ABC animation and NBC Universal.
The NBC girl was very funny and I found out she's from FL and went to Lake Mary high school (which, for my non-Florida readers is one of the schools in my county). Anyways, for a while we were going on about FL and really chatting it up...long story short, I definitely plan to keep and stay in touch with her...and she was like 'yeah, FL connection, we gotta get you a job'...so hopefully it will go somewhere.
That was only two surprises, but its always good to count your blessings...off to sleepy land I go...

Early Mornings, Late Nights...
The company has these big meetings set up tomorrow with potential buyers of all the many TV shows they are developing for 3D television. My tasks for the past few weeks has been focused on developing the 2D and print graphics for one of the shows. Well, today I was tasked with coming up with 'one sheets' or basically like a mini movie poster with a summary, for 4 different shows. It is challenging work, but fun too because I get to be creative, and NOT pick up laundry, or wash dishes, or go get coffee or any of the other mindless things I did at the majority of my other internships.
Though I'm not tired like I am from being on set during actual production, my brain kinda hurts...staring at a computer for 12hours tends the suck the life out...but no complaints from me. It was fun and...again...I'm learning a lot, and they give me all kinds of creative freedom. Not only that, the owners are Christian and go to the same church I have started just recently going to. I saw the husband and spoke, he spoke back, but I don't think he realized it was me, because my hair (as it often is) was different.
Anyways, here's some of the work I did today...which my immediate boss will clean up and change accordingly. Now, I have not signed a 'non-disclosure' agreement here (which says I won't talk about projects outside of the office), but even so, I probably shouldn't be putting these up. But as this blog is mostly private to family and friends, I figure I'd put it up for a minute, and then take it down...so, I'll go ahead and say, you have a week to check out my work. (But PLEASE don't try and use these, or copy or paste or basically anything but look!!!!)
Well, since this was a long day, I am getting in early...and 11pm may not be that early to some, but it's a treat for me to be in the bed before the next day technically starts, so I will take it!
By the way...thanks to everyone who's sent encouraging words...definitely makes me feel better.
****THE DESIGNS HAVE BEEN TAKEN DOWN (to protect me, the innocent!, should anything jump off!"****"
A productive day...
The change of scenery made for a productive day as far as my writing and people watching were concerned...people are funny. One young lady was tutoring a young boy, but yelling and degrading him when he wouldn't work or got an answer wrong...and when the boy quit and was almost in tears, she told him he needed to belive in himself. I had a mind to kick her in her face, but that would not have been very Christ-like or a good representation of a decent role model.
I spent most of the day there, applying for jobs between writing and watching. Later a friend invited me to a networking event, and though I was really tired, I went. The networkinh was followed by a showing of the movie " kiss, kiss, bang, bang.". The venue was a nice, outdoor place at the W hotel in Hollywood and the movie was...entertaining, but the networking left a little to be desired. Ah well...I did try.
Off to bed...early day tomorrow at the internship.

The MAJOR Catch up!
MAY
- I produced a book trailer for one of my professors. Check it out here: http://www.crickettrumley.com/?page_id=171
- As a side note, at the time this was supposed to shoot, I got ridiculously sick, the permits and locations were a nightmare and I basically had a mini-breakdown, but...we got it done and both I and the director/author were very pleased.
- I got my first paid industry work in L.A. as an Additional Assistant Director on a TV web series, but I'm not sure when or where it will be aired.
- I got my second paid gig as a script analysis for the International Film Distribution Consultants.
- I flew to Tennessee and surprised my (now Tennessee Vol) cousin for his high school graduation. It was lots of fun with the family and his new puppy.

JUNE
- I took a much needed mini vacation to Florida.
- I applied to the Disney/ABC TV writing program
- (which I literally got into the mail on the deadline with just 10 minutes before the Post Office closed...and I'm really praying that acceptance into this program is the reason why I can't find a full time job. This program is a fully (and well) paid, wonderful opportunity, and VERY competitive; they won't make decisions till November/December and it won't start until January 2012...this is one I'd like MUCH prayer for!)
- I returned to L.A.
- A short thriller/suspense film shot in my house...The production took over my apartment for four days and it looked a hot mess, but I had fun working on it and made some new friends and connections.
- Delaware graduated!
- I went to the golf range for the first time ever...and wasn't as bad as I thought I'd be.
- I celebrated another birthday which fell on Father's Day, and was bitter sweet. But, I treated myself to a two hour hot-stone massage and had a lovely dinner with a dear friend.
- I got invited to an exclusive open house and met and had a conversation with Neicy Nash (former host of Style Network's 'Clean House' show...she was really nice and down to earth.)

The Shoot at my house |
JULY
- I saw the first showing of IRIS, Cirque Du Soliel's new show at the Kodak Theater on Hollywood Blvd.
- I produced my last student short
- It's not completely finished yet, but hopefully I'll be able to post a link soon...
- Pretty sure I saw lots of movies...this month's a bit of a blur.
AUGUST
- Mom and the Godparent's visited and we had a great time!
- I got an internship with a local 3D Graphics company in the graphic design department. It's fun, it's close, and I'm learning alot. It's only two days a week but gives me something to do and get out of the house.
- I left the church I'd been attending since coming to L.A. It's a long story, but I feel it was what was best for me, and I pray for the continuance of that ministry.
- I started going to a new church that's about 10 minutes away from my house...still figuring out if its the one for me, but I do like it.
- One of the few friends I've made out here, got a new job in DC and moved away.
SEPTEMBER
- I went to watch an old movie (Rebel Without a Cause) with Delaware and friends in the famed Hollywood Park Cemetery. It's sounds weird and creepy, but it was actually alot of fun! (They do screenings there of all sorts during the summer until the end of September I believe...its on the 'must dos' of Hollywood.)
- I went to a taping of the ELLEN show, and saw a pre screening of the movie 50/50, which was good and the main cast were the guests. I sat by a woman who got to play the game and won $1000.00 gift card from Target! Also saw Maroon 5 perform and received a free CD and Snapple...it was a really fun day, which...if I had a job, I would not have got the chance to attend...(free time is one of the few perks of being unemployed.)
Anywho, stay tuned...it can only get better from here...well, that's what I'm praying for and banking on! Let the new adventures begin.
